BACOLOD City – Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban)secretary-general Yves Akol was seen at the Office of the City Mayor yesterday.
Is Mayor Evelio Leonardia joining the ruling party?
Leonardia refused to say why Akol was there. But Akol himself said he was there to “handin” an application for membership.
The deadline of membership confirmation is on or before Oct. 1, the scheduled induction of incoming members from Negros Occidental.
Asked whether or not he is joining the ruling party, Leonardia did not give a categorical answer.
He said he will consult the local members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and the Grupo Progreso.
The mayor disclosed he already spoke with NPC’s president Giorgidi Aggabao and chairmanFaustino Dy Jr.
“I will first talk to them (local members) before making an announcement,” said Leonardia. “We have to respect the [party] membership.”
On Oct. 1, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will lead other new PDP-Laban members from Negros Occidental in their oath-taking.
Around 94 other local officials includingProvincial Board members, mayors, vice mayors, and councilors are joining the ruling party./PN
