BACOLOD City –The Negros Occidental Small Farmers’ Association (Nosfa) will hold its 3rd Provincial Congress at Grand Regal Hotel today.
Around 200 small fisherfolk leaders and civil society grouprepresentatives and guests,including a delegation from Camiguin province, are expected to attend.
Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Risa Hontiveros were invited as keynote speakers.
Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr., Vice Gov. Eugenio Lacson, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 6 directorRemia Aparri, Department of the Interior and Local Government – Negros Island RegiondirectorMargie Biligan, and other local officials were invited, too.
Nosfa continues to build local small fisher alliances. It is now present in 14 coastal cities and towns covering 85 small fisher organizations.
The association and its member alliances recently launched several advocacy initiatives in localities, including campaigns against illegal fishing, sustainable fishery, coastal resource management, and climate adaptation programs, including mangrove reforestation and coastal cleanups.
Nosfa’s 3rd Provincial Congress has the theme, “Padayon nga Paghugpong Para sa Sutenido nga Kauswagan sa Negros Island.”/PN
