MANILA – Sen. Francis Pangilinan clarified that his wife, Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan, did not hold a concert at the New Bilibid Prison.
Pangilinan said the singer-actress-host only taped an episode of her now defunct talk show “Kasama mo Kapatid” in 2012 there.
The episode, which featured “the life of inmates,” was in support to the outreach program of RockEd Philippines, he said.
Cuneta-Pangilinan sang the hits “Maging Sino Ka Man,” “Tubig at Langis,” “Kahit Konting Pagtingin,” and “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko,” said Pangilinan.
Testifying at Tuesday’s House of Representatives hearing on the alleged drug proliferation at the prison, former chief inspector Rodolfo Magleo said Cuneta-Pangilinan, Ethel Booba, Freddie Aguilar, and the Mocha Girls held “concerts” at the penitentiary.
Responding to Magleo’s claim, Ethel Booba urged her followers on Twitter to buy her new book,“#Charotism,” to find out if she really performed at the Bilibid.
“Ang daming nagtweet sabi magsalita na daw ako. Hello, HEARING po yan not SPEAKING. Makinig nalang tayo. Charot! #CongressHearing,” she tweeted.
Mocha Uson of the all-girl group Mocha Girls admitted performing at the penitentiary “noong late 2012 or early 2013.” She said they were issued a permit by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
“Ito po ay pormal na concert na dumaan po sa tamang proseso. Maraming pong mga artista na nagsho-show dun at nagbibigay pag-asa sa mga bilanggo,” she said.
“Sa tingin ko naman po walang masama kung ito ay pormal na nanggaling sa opisyal ng BuCor,” she added. “Ang Mocha Girls ay involved po sa iba’t-ibang charity shows kahit noon pa man.”/PN
