BACOLOD City – Joining the ruling PartidoDemokratikongPilipinas – Lakasng Bayan is a “practical move,” according to former Negros Occidental governor Rafael Coscolluela.

Several provincial government officials led by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. have joined the party of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Coscolluela believes they only aim for what is good for the province.

“[Some] may think political parties are meaningless,” he said, “[but] that’s reality — we do whatever is practical.”
The provincial government’s development agenda needs backing from the national government, he stressed.

Coscolluela stressed the local governments alone cannot push for the island region’s developments.

“Let’s be realistic. … We need national government support,” said the provincial government consultant on investment and promotions, trade and export development and interagency coordination.

Joining the ruling party will only be a problem if it is “self-serving,” he said.

Coscolluela sees better chances for Negros Island Region with Marañon’s entry in the party./PN
