KALIBO, Aklan – A nine-hour power interruption will hit Aklan and parts of Antique on Sept. 24.
Areas serviced by the Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) will experience the outage from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
These include all 17 municipalities in Aklan, including Boracay Island, and Sebaste, Pandan and Culasitowns in Antique.
Annual preventive maintenance will be performed on Panit-an (Capiz) – Nabas (Aklan) 138-kilovolt (kV) associated high-voltage equipment, including protection relays and transmission lines, NGCP said.
The power grid operator will also perform maintenance work on 69-kV transmission lines; repairs on power circuit breaker (PCB) poles in Barangay Caticlan, Malay; and evaluation/resetting of the 13.2-kV line protection of a 30-megavolt ampere circuit in Boracay.
A PCB is a prime component of power system critical for the efficient and sound operation of an electric network.
It must be constantly dependable and responsive at any given time.
Normal operations will resume after these, the NGCP said.
The NGCP took over the nationwide transmission grid operations in 2009 and has invested in rolling out new transmission infrastructures.
According to its power outlook as of Sept. 17, Visayas has 1,915 megawatts (MW) available, with a 1,662-MW system peak, or gross reserves of +253 MW. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
