MANILA – The embattled Sen. Leila de Lima, being investigated for allegedly coddling drug lords, said there is no reason for her to resign.
In the Lower House, representatives Lito Atienza and Harry Roque are urging de Lima to resign over her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade inside the National Bilibid Prison.

“Huh! Should I? Ako ang ginigipit nila sa mga walang katuturan na mga akusasyon nila, and then ako ang magre-resign?” said de Lima, who was earlier ousted as chairperson of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

At the recent House inquiry into the Bilibid drug trade, convicted robber and drug dealer Herbert Colangco accused the former Justice secretary of receiving from him P3 million every month in exchange for protection and VIP treatment.

Police deputy chief for operations Dir. Benjamin Magalong, formerly head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, who planned the 2014 raid in Bilibid, also said de Lima excluded his team from the conduct of a drug raid, which eventually led to the transfer of the Bilibid 19 to the National Bureau of Investigation Central Office.

De Lima said she did not want to speak further on the issue. “Baka kung ano pa masabi ko lalo pang magagalit ang mga iyan,” she said.
Meanwhile, de Lima revealed she has left her house “temporarily” after her mobile phone number and home address were disclosed during the Bilibid probe.

“I’m now in a temporary place of abode. Look at that. At hindi lang ako ang apektado. Of course, because I live in a subdivision, kahit may guards, apektado ang buong subdivision. They are now taking extra steps, extra security measures. So that’s an added burden on the subdivision, na nadadamay lang sila because of me,” the lawmaker shared./PN
