BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is getting ready for another strategy in the war against illegal drugs. Its personnel are set to post stickers in houses cleared of illegal drugs.

Each 4×4-inch sticker will bear the message “Balay nga Wala sang Druga” or “drug-free house.”

There is now a total of 13,955 drug personalities in Negros Occidental.

Prior to the recent drug summit in Negros Occidental, the provincial police tagged 4,178 drug personalities.

The latest count was done on Sept. 15, according to Chief Inspector Marc Anthony Darroca of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group.

The figure rose by 9,777, he said during the recent Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council meeting.

The total number of drug personalities in Negros Occidental, however, constituted only .07 percent of the total national drug personality population of 1.8 million.

Darroca also said the 13,955 was just .05 percent of Negros Occidental’s 2.4-million population.

From the previous 4,178 drug offenders, 383 were neutralized, 213 were not found in their addresses, 1,644 surrendered, and 3,965 were visited by policemen.

Of the 601 barangays in the province, 84.03 percent were affected, 15 percent unaffected, one percent cleared while no barangay is seriously affected, said Darroca.

The Negros Occidental police conducted a total of 425 operations from January to September of this year, seizing 1.6 kilograms of shabu and 9.7 kilograms of marijuana all worth P17 million. (PIA-6/PN)
