ILOILO City – Iloilo City’s non-functional business resource center (BRC) will be reactivated with the support of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) but will already be named as Negosyo Center (NC) to be managed similar to the concept of a shared service facility (SSF).
The BRC was supposedly to assist micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing services such as business registry, online application, business development service, consultancy services, trainings and seminar, financing facilitation, market linkage and facilitation, trademark and patent application assistance.
SSF, which is a flagship project of DTI, aims to improve the competitiveness of MSMEs by providing them with machinery, equipment, tools, systems, skills and knowledge under a shared system.
DTI Western Visayas officer-in-charge and provincial director DiosdadoCadena said Iloilo City was among the four cities in the country chosen as priority areas for the BRC project wayback in 2012. DTI has committed to bring in equipment worth more than P500,000.
The equipment has been delivered but the BRC said it did not operate as intended.
“We will sit down together and iron out everything to operate it,” Cadena said.
The set of equipment that was acquired for the BRC and soon to be NC is composed of information technology facilities such as computers, camera and microphone, among others.
A usufruct agreement on the SSF project with the city government will formalize the reactivation.
Cadena added that the change in name is mainly for branding purposes for auditing concerns. (PNA)
