ILOILO City – An investment forum that will focus on agri-aqua industry hopes to bring together national and international business people who are inclined to invest in the agriculture industry in Iloilo and its neighboring provinces.

Preparation is now underway for the 1st Agri-Aqua Investment Forum that will be held in November here to be hosted by the Panay Organic Producers Association (POPA) in partnership with the Iloilo provincial government and selected national government agencies including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Dubbed “Grow Western Visayas: Accelerating Investment for Global Markets,” the two-day forum from Nov. 9-10 will gather around 300 participants composed of investors, processors and farmers in Panay island.

“The idea is to bring in prospective investors or attract big time investors in certain selected priority agricultural products,” said Diosdado Cadena Jr., DTI officer-in-charge and provincial director.

Selected priority agricultural products are coffee, cacao, fruits and vegetables, livestock, poultry, swine and farmed seafood.
Cadena pointed out that currently, there is a big demand for the commodities and a collaborative and deliberative effort to increase productivity of the agribusiness sector is needed.

He also mentioned that farmers in Panay Island have very high potential to increase their production.
Cadena said they are finalizing the plans for the forum with other partner agencies namely Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Tourism, National Economic Development Authority, and Iloilo Economic Development Foundation. Top officials from DTI and DA are expected to be the major speakers in the forum, he said. (PNA)
