CEBU City – A councilor in Mandaue City has proposed an ordinance that penalizes residents, officials at government-owned properties and business establishment owners who fail to clean their areas.
According to Raul “Kevin” Cabahug V, his “Anti-Dengue Ordinance” will help get rid of mosquito breeding grounds.
Cabahug has observed the government has been spending thousands of pesos to fund the campaign against dengue.
The campaign has become additional work for the health officers, he said.
“People leave everything to the team that conducts the anti-mosquito campaign,” specifically searching and destroying mosquito breeding sites, said the former barangay councilman and health committee chairman in Looc.
“We are part of the problem and part of the solution,” stressed Cabahug.
The proposed ordinance mandates “all owners, managers, administrators, or caretakers of households, schools, vacant lots, abandoned houses, tire trading/merchandiser business, and all other buildings/establishments” in Mandaue to clear mosquito breeding grounds or stagnant water.
Anyone who fails to comply will be warned and told to do community service for three hours on first offense.
A P1,000 fine and three hours of community service will be imposed on second offense and a P3,000 fine and the same hours of community service on third offense. (PNA)
