MANILA – The Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors and the Bureau of Customs Transformers have been tipped as the teams to beat in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference, set to open on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.
The Transformers became an instant favorite in the tournament following the acquisition of two-time MVP Alyssa Valdez as well as veterans Rizza Mandapat, Fhen Emnas, Michiko Castaneda, and Menchie Tubiera.
“Isa naman sa mga misyon ng Customs sa pagsali sa V-League ay mabago ang image nila sa publiko,” said Transformers head coach Sherwin Meneses. “And with our lineup, may ipaglalaban naman tayo sa ibang teams sa V-League.”
The Lady Warriors is also favored for its second straight crown as it maintained its core lineup with Michelle Gumabao, Myla Pablo and Elaine Kasilag, as well as the arrival of reinforcements Bree Mackie and Andrea Kacsits.
“Maganda ang chance namin ngayon dahil ‘yung mga players prepared na. May konting pressure kasi kami ang champion sa Open Conference pero mas nagiging motivation namin ‘yun para mag champion uli,” said Lady Warriors mentor Rommel Abella.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Air Force Lady Jet Spikers is out for redemption after missing a golden chance to win its first V-League title in the Open Conference against the Lady Warriors.
The Lady Jet Spikers are set to parade an intact lineup led by veterans Judy Anne Caballejo, Joy Cases, Mary Ann Pantino, Jocemar Tapic, Wendy Semana, Mae Antipuesto, Iari Yongco, and Jennifer Manzano.
Also expected to make an impact is Bali Pure Water Defenders, which will be led by Charo Soriano, Angelique Gervacio, Amy Ahomiro, Negrense Bea Tan and Denise Lazaro, and the Laoag Power Smashers, which was boosted by Gretchel Soltones.
Other teams in the Reinforced Conference are the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons and the Philippine Coast Guard./PN
