ILOILO City – Missing for five days, a fisherman from the province of Guimaras was rescued in Zamboanga del Norte.
The 25-year-old Ramie Polido of Barangay Lapine, Nueva Valencia town went out to sea on Sept. 22 but failed to return home.
Polido fished in the waters off Malingin Island, Guimaras but due to big waves and strong winds, his boat drifted away.
Even without any navigational equipment to track his location, Polido continuously rowed his boat until he reached the waters of Zamboanga del Norte, said Lieutenant Ramil Palabrica, station commander of the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo.
It was about midnight of Sept. 25 when Polido, hungry and weary, reached Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte. He sought the help of the locals.
Polido was immediately given the necessary medical assistance. As of this writing the PCG-Dapitan was arranging his return to Guimaras through PCG-Iloilo./PN
