BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental is a nominee in the search for outstanding organic province in this year’s National Organic Agriculture Achievers Award (NOAAA).
The Department of Agriculture (DA) started its three-day final evaluation on Wednesday at the Social Hall of the provincial capitol here.
Evaluators will visit organic agriculture sites all over the province, according to DA regional director Joyce Wendam.
The evaluators already visited Minuro Organic Village and Peñalosa Farm in Victorias City on Tuesday.
They will soon visit Negros Museum Café, May’s Organic Garden, Farmers Organic Market Village at the Pana-ad Park, 26th Herbs, and Fresh Start here.
Wendam believes Negros Occidental will win this year’s search.
The team of evaluators comprises representatives from the DA’s attached agencies.
The NOAAA is a national search recognizing development initiatives for organic agriculture.
The outstanding organic province will receive a P3-million project.
Sought for comment, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said he is supporting the industry for he believes in its good purpose.
“We are not after the awards. We are doing this for the good of the farmers and the industry,” said Marañon./PN
