BORACAY – This island resort is becoming more known as a cruise ship destination, a local port administrator said.
More international cruise ships are expected to bring hundreds of tourists here soon.
The MS Hanseatic of the Hapag Lloyd cruise line, carrying 300 passengers, will arrive here on Oct. 8. Another will arrive in November, according to Caticlan port administrator Niven Maquirang.
On Jan. 28, 2017, the Seabourn Sojourn of the United Phil Lines, Inc., laden with more than 400 tourists, will dock here.
Maquirang said the Aklan provincial government is fully supporting Boracay’s cruise tourism.
Nabaoy River, Motag Museum and the Ibajay Eco-Bakhawan are considered alternative tourist spots for Asian cruise travelers, he said in a radio interview.
Boracay attracted 10 international cruise lines in 2015 despite growing competition from neighboring destinations like Palawan.
Cruise ships usually make day trips to the island and depart in the afternoon for their next destinations.
Tender boats are used to transport passengers from cruise ships to Boracay.
While in the island, the guests can go on island-hopping, stroll at the beaches, dine, and shop.
On Sept. 24, the Legend of the Seas of the Royal Caribbean International docked in the island. It had 2,076 passengers.
The trip was part of the six-day, five-night roundtrip Best of Cruise Philippines voyage that took Chinese tourists on Sept. 21 from Xiamen in China to Manila in the Philippines, and then to Boracay.
The eighth cruise ship to have a port call here this year, the Legend of the Seas made its first voyage here on Oct. 26, 2012, Maquirang said. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
