ILOILO City – A man who stabbed two teenagers in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, Lambunao, Iloilo around 11 a.m. yesterday died. The police shot him.
The responding police officers were trying to pacify the 37-year-old Stephen Alegante, who was acting unruly.
They were aiming at his right arm which was holding an ice pick but hit the right side of his body instead, said Chief Inspector Dennis Pamonag, Lambunao police chief.
Alegante was rushed to the Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital but was declared “dead on arrival.”
According to Pamonag, the man’s family said they will not file any case.
Alegate, a resident of Barangay Caninguan, Lambunao, was suffering from nervous breakdown, said Pamonag.
“He (Alegante) walked from Cabatuan to Lambunao,” Pamonag said in Hiligaynon. “When he reached Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, he stabbed two minors.”
Alegnate first stabbed the 16-year-old.
“The 14-year-old hit him, causing him to stab the younger teenager as well,” said Pamonag.
The 16-year-old had wounds on the back and right arm, while the 14-year-old was wounded on the chest.
The teenagers were taken to the same hospital. Lambunao police officers responded, but Alegante attacked one of them, Police Officer 2 Ramon Ligayada, with the ice pick. Ligayada was able to parry it.
Aside from the ice pick, Alegante was also armed with a knife./PN
