ILOILO City – True to its pioneering live-work-play-learn lifestyle concept, real estate giant Megaworld Corp. hosted a scrabble tournament for kids in Iloilo Business Park here on Oct. 1.
More than 70 students from various schools in the city and province of Iloilo participated in the competition.
The participants put their vocabulary, wit and social skills to the test as they competed in the said word game. The tournament has two categories: Kids for ages seven to ten years old and Junior for ages 11 to 15.
Bearing the standard scrabble competition mechanics practiced worldwide, the participants went through the eliminations, semi-finals and finals.
At the end of the game, Carl Reyphonse Caras, Jane Dane Labistre, and Drexter Jake Calunsod were named as champion, first and second runners-up, respectively for the Junior Category.
Meanwhile, Thomas Nathan Hautea emerged as the champion for the Kids Category and also grabbed the Best Word Scorer and Longest Word Special Awards. He was joined by Sabrina Ann Gatdula who was declared as the first runner-up for the Kids Category.
The winners took home over P6,000 worth of cash and gift certificates.
“Scrabble is not just a form of mental exercise, but it is also a social practice. It lets participants discuss language and teamwork while competing,” said Iloilo Business Park Vice President for sales and marketing Jennifer Palmares-Fong.
She added that the event is one way of supporting schools in luring students away from television and computer games, and giving the students a chance to realize other skills and interests.
Iloilo Business Park boasts that its lifestyle concept is suitable for all ages. Among the many developments in the said township include the Megaworld Lifestyle Mall, a 1.1 kilometer dining strip. Open parks, bike lanes, and the biggest McDonald’s in the whole Panay Island are also present here. It also houses BPO office towers, international hotels, a world-class convention center and luxury residential condominiums.
At present, Iloilo Business Park has already four residential towers namely: Lafayette Park Square, One Madison Place, The Palladium and the recently launched Saint Honore. /PN
