ILOILO City – A detainee in the La Paz police station lockup cell tried to commit suicide by overdosing on pills.
Lorelie Parreño, 30, of Barangay Libertad, Lapuz district was rushed to the West Visayas State University Medical Center.
Parreño took around 30 pills, including paracetamol, mefenamic acid and cephalexin, said Senior Inspector Rey Sumagaysay, La Paz police chief.
Noticing that Parreño was very weak around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, her fellow inmate identified only as Joan called the station officers.
Prior to this, Parreño cried, claiming that her girlfriend has not visited her since her detention, Sumagaysay said.
Parreño was caught selling shabu on Sept. 14 in Barangay Rizal, Lapuz.
“She was very depressed,” Sumagaysay said. “Her offense was non-bailable.”
Sumagaysay disclosed that Parreño had been arrested before for alleged theft and swindling.
He said Parreño admitted taking the pills while her six fellow inmates were sleeping./PN
