ILOILO City- Secretary Mark A. Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) led his team in inspecting the new Aganan Bridge in Maasin, Iloilo recently. The construction of a 180 lineal meter bridge along Mandurriao-San Miguel-Alimodian-Maasin-Cabatuan road is now ongoing and is being undertaken by the DPWH Regional Office.
Accompanying the Secretary were OIC- Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño Jr., OIC-Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto, OIC-Chief of Construction Division Engr. Ormel A. Santos, District Engineer Edmund V. Opinion, District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo and representatives from the contractor.
The first phase of the construction of the bridge started on April 2016, with the appropriation of P61.8 Million from the FY 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA), under contract with IBC International Builders Corporation in the amount of P59.49 Million.
This project involves the construction of 2 lanes, 6 spans at 30m PSCG AASHTO Type IVB Bridge on bored pile foundation, 3 spans of complete continuous superstructures with sidewalk and railings, the fabrication of an additional 3-30m PSCG for span 4 and complete substructures consisting of 2 pier abutments and 5 piers both with 2 columns on bored pile foundations with abutment and scour protection.
Additionally, the second phase of the construction for FY 2017 will be for the completion of 3 spans superstructures with sidewalks and railings as well as the construction of bridge approaches, including slope protection.
Aganan Bridge will be the foremost link between Maasin and Alimodian and their barangays, and will greatly affect their economic activities. Once completed, this bridge will increase ventures for the improved profitability of the farmers. It will also provide faster and more efficient access between towns. /PN
