ILOILO City – The Department of Agriculture (DA) here is eyeing a more than 10 percent increase in its budget in 2017, or P1.3 billion from this year’s P1.1 billion.
DA regional executive director for Western Visayas Remelyn Recoter said they will still continue to provide similar interventions to farmers although the budget for farm-to-market roads has been slashed to P230 million.
She added that the regional budget still includes Negros Occidental.
The director added that Congress also understood the predicament of the department over the P1-billion slash in its national fund intended for quick response fund. The fund was transferred by the Department of Budget and Management to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) but may be reverted back to DA.
Recoter said that during disaster, it would be easier for DA to release the fund unlike when it’s with the NDRMC where they have to go through various processes. (PNA)
