SAN JOSE, Antique – Another Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary brought honor to Antique.
Anedaine J. Geamal from Tobias Fornier town was cited as top winner in the 2016 search for the Pantawid Pamilya Exemplary Children in Western Visayas.
Her achievement put Antique to the search’s Hall of Fame, being the first province in Region 6 to win the award for the last three consecutive years.
After the search was launched in 2012, Antique was first runner-up in 2013.
For four years Antique made it to the top, representing Region 6 in the national competition, said Christian Baldonasa, a 4Ps social worker.
Anedaine is fourth among the five all-girl siblings from Barangay Igdalaguit, Tobias Fornier, raised by parents who earn their daily subsistence as construction worker (father) and seasonal farm laborer (mother).
Pantawid Pamilya’s municipal link Carl Dulla spoke well of Anedaine’s character and determination to go to school. He said the pupil is a consistent No. 1 in her class since Kindergarten.
Anedaine is also a peer tutor to some of her classmates at Diclum Elementary School where she is currently in Grade 6.
To a poor family whose income is only good for daily subsistence (food and some basic needs), sending five children to school is really a big challenge, said Dulla who has been constantlt monitoring the Geamal family.
The cash grants the family receives from Pantawid Pamilya has helped Anedaine and her siblings pay for miscellaneous fees, school supplies and budget to join extracurricular activities.
More than the cash prize of P8,000 and a trophy that she got as the regional winner, Anedaine also serves as an inspiration to all Antiqueño children.
Other winners of the regional search were Lourden Oremo of Iloilo province (first runner-up), Franchine Kate Latigay of Roxas City, Capiz (second runner-up), and Marayah Veronica Alcoran of La Paz, Iloilo City (third runner-up). (PIA-Antique/PN)
