MANILA –De La Salle University Green Archers center Benoit Mbala is the runaway leader in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) race at the close of the first round of the UAAP 79 men’s seniors’ basketball tournament.
The Cameroonian import Mbala lead the way in the MVP statistical race after garnering 95.2857 overall statistical points (SPs), based on data released by the league’s official statistics provider ImperiumTechnology.
The 6-foot-8 Mbala has an impressive average of 20.7 points, 16.3 rebounds,2.1 steals and 2.1 blocks per outing. He also earned a 105–point bonus on Green Archers’ perfect 7-0 record.
At far second in the individual race is Adamson University Falcons import Papi Sarr, who has overall SPs of 71.4286. The Cameroonian center was the league’s leading rebounder with 16.6 caroms per match.
Green Archers guard Jeron Teng is at third with his 56.3333 SPs, followed by Far Eastern University Tamaraws’ Raymar Jose (54), University of the Philippines Maroons’ Paul Desiderio (53.8571), and Falcons rookie Jerrick Ahanmisi (51.8571),.
The statistical points of each player at the end of the double-round eliminations will be used in determining the Season 79 MVP awardee, the Mythical Five members and the Rookie of the Year./PN
