SAN JOSE, Antique – Substandard Christmas lights worth P230,000 have been destroyed here yesterday.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) confiscated the items with the brand Sun Thad during monitoring across Antique.
DTI-Antique official Glen Fernando said the mass destruction was held in observance of the Consumer Welfare Month this October.
Fernando said they aim to encourage consumers to buy only commodities that have passed the Bureau of Philippine Standards requirements.
“Consumers have to be vigilant and meticulous when they buy Christmas lights,” he said, adding that substandard ones pose danger.
“Safe” Christmas lights and other appliances have the ICC (import commodity clearance) sticker and/or the PS (Philippine standard) mark, said Fernando. (PNA)
