MANILA – The Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors barged into the win-column of the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-16 win over the Philippine Coast Guard Lady Dolphins on Monday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Led by reinforcements Bree Mackie and Andrea Kacsits, the Lady Warriors made quick work of the struggling Lady Dolphins to improve its record to 1-1. The Lady Dolphins slid down to 0-4.
The Lady Dolphins opened the match with a 6-0 lead behind Hazel Mea and Samantha Dawson. But the Lady Warriors relied on Mackie and Michelle Gumabao to tie the count at 9-all before taking a 16-12 edge behind Kacsits and Mackie.
Consecutive hits from Iris Tolenada and Gumabao allowed the Lady Warriors to widen its lead to 20-15. The Lady Dolphins tried to come close but Gumabao and Kacsits drained back-to-back hits to close the set.
From a tight start in the second frame, the Lady Warriors hanged on to a slim 8-6 lead until a huge run behind Mackie and Kacsits, as well as errors from the Lady Dolphins totaled a 16-8 edge.
After three straight hits by the Lady Dolphins, the Lady Warriors went on an 8-0 scoring run behind consecutive shots from Mackie, Kacsits and Gumabao to take a 2-0 set lead.
The Lady Dolphins took advantage of the errors of the Lady Warriors early in the third set for a slim 8-6 lead, but the Lady Warriors quickly countered with a run behind Mackie to take a slim 16-13 lead.
The gap later grew to 22-15 behind conversions by Kacsits and Elaine Kasilag. After a last push by the Lady Dolphins, the Lady Warriors scored three straight points from their imports to close the match./PN
