BORACAY — Boracay Dragons frisbee team will be seeing action in a series of United States Tour beach ultimate frisbee events as it girds for the 2015 World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) World Championships of Beach Ultimate in JBR Beach, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Grabbing silver world medal twice — against Australia in a 2007 game in Brazil and against the US in 2011 during the WFDF Beach Worlds in Italy — Boracay Dragons will hit three states in their US tune-up events.
The US Tour will bring the team to the 22nd annual W2BU (Wildwoods Beach Ultimate) in Wildwoods, New Jersey, on July 26 to 27. With over 400 teams competing, the tournament will be on Schellenger Avenue.
From New Jersey, the team will head to Illinois for the 14th annual Ultimate Chicago Sandblast, a two-division beach ultimate frisbee tournament, in Montrose Beach, Chicago, Illinois, on August 1 to 3.
It will compete in Game Division against 800 world-class players from 32 teams. Drazba XXI from Chicago, Illinois, is the defending Game Division champion.
Boracay Dragons will then proceed to Maryland, Washington DC, for the Ocean City Beach Classic in Downtown Ocean City on August 9 to 10. About 30 to 50 teams are expected to outlast each other in the Open and Recreational Divisions.
The team comprises world-class frisbee players James Parcon Yap, Dominick Famorcan, Karen Cabrera, Michelle Delos Santos, Paul Richie Mariano, Kristian Guerrero, David Libo-on III, Wendell Jefferson Go, Wendell Simbulan, Benjamin Parcon Yap, Christopher Jude Lee, Tara Parvus, and Dalidig Sumndad.
