BACOLOD City – The city government wants to stop the illegal slaughtering of meat and their unauthorized distribution.
Through an executive order, Mayor Evelio Leonardia wanted a reorganized Task Force Botagoy to strengthen its capability to run after those slaughtering animals – specifically hogs and cattle – not in the city’s abattoir and distributing the meat within the city, vis-à-vis City Ordinance No. 459.
The ordinance set the guidelines and policies in the apprehension and confiscation of illegally slaughtered animals, including slaughtering paraphernalia.
City Veterinarian Rex Juplo heads Task Force Botagoy. The illegal slaughtering of animals, especially pigs, is rampant in the city, he said.
“There is a need to stop the illegal slaughtering of animals to ensure the health and welfare of consumers,” said Juplo.
The safety of meat not from the city’s slaughterhouse is not guaranteed. Those from the slaughterhouse, on the other hand, are being inspected and certified as safe for human consumption.
The task force members are:
* Councilor Bartolome Orola, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on markets and slaughterhouse
* Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, head of Cluster on Markets
* Senior Superintendent Flynn Dongbo, acting city police director
* Dr. Olga Lucas, acting regional director of the National Meat Inspection Service
* Atty. Joselito Bayatan, head of City Legal Office, and
