ILOILO City – About three-fourths or 72 percent of Filipinos hope that by 2040, the standard of living for the entire country involves having a simple and comfortable life.
Engineer Gilberto Altura, OIC Assistant Regional Director of National Economic Development Authority 6 (NEDA 6) said this was revealed in a national survey dubbed ‘AmbisyonNatin 2040’.
Altura said the study indicated that for Filipinos a simple and comfortable life is having a medium-sized home, having enough earnings to support everyday needs, owning at least one car/vehicle, having the capacity to provide their children college education, and to be able to go on local trips for vacation.
The study further showed that by 2040, one fourth or 25 percent of Filipinos want to have a prosperous and affluent life. However, confidence in the desired goals is lower among the poor. In fact, among those who want a comfortable life, some 48.5 percent are not fully confident that they can reach their goals.
NEDA has commissioned a firm to conduct the survey early this year which was participated in by 10,000 respondents nationwide, including the Visayas region.
Altura said ‘AmbisyonNatin 2040’ will serve as a guide for development planners of at least four administrations including that of President Rodrigo Duterte.
He said the goals and objectives of the 6- year term of President Duterte are geared towards the 2040 vision.
Currently, NEDA conducts Information, Education and Communication activities such as briefings and forums in the different regions of the country to discuss the project and identify steps with local stakeholders to support the vision.
In Region 6, around 100 representatives composed of youth, government, civil society organization, academe, private sector and media attended the AmbisyonNatin 2040 Public Forum conducted at the Central Philippine University on Oct. 11.
Dr. Teodoro Robles, President of CPU, thanked NEDA for involving them in the activity.
“I think it is very important that we need to know what are our goals are and what is important after this, is how do we go from here to where we want to be and this covers a lot of areas. This is about our life in the Philippines, economic and other areas, so involving a lot of people in the discussion is very important,” said Robles.
The forum in CPU was the fourth and the next will be conducted in Palawan and Zamboanga.
