ILOILO City – Is the city government paying for non-existent telephone lines?
Councilor R Leone Gerochi, chairperson of the city council’s committee on public services, transportation, energy, and utilities, wanted to know.
He sought an inventory of all landlines and internet access at city hall after discovering that even the telephone provider of the city government appeared to have no idea which phone lines belonged to which city hall office or department.
Gerochi did not discount the possibility that the city government may have been or was being billed for non-existent or already terminated phone lines.
“The inventory is in the best interest of the city government. It should not to pay for anything it is not utilizing,” said Gerochi.
He urged the General Services Office (GSO) to lead the inventory, noting that the city government had moved its offices twice – from the old city hall to the terminal market and a mall when the new city hall was still being constructed, then transferring from the terminal market and mall to the newly completed city hall.
“Let us conduct a proper inventory kun ang phone lines naga-exist pa. If they still are, diin ini sila napertinisir? Ano ang service nga gina-provide? Is it purely landline or is it landline with internet?” Gerochi asked.
The phone bills of city councilors also vary, he said. Some had bills at P1,200 only while others reached P6,000.
