KALIBO, Aklan – A 44-year-old drug suspect detained in a police station lockup cell in Nabas town has escaped.
The police are now seeking the public’s help in finding Ranil Magcuha of Barangay Unidos, Nabas.
Magcuha — No. 1 in the local police’s watch list of drug personalities — was caught around 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 19. The suspect sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover police officer for P1,000.
But around 5:10 a.m. on Oct. 20 the duty desk officer found him missing in his cell, said Chief Inspector Belshazzar Villanoche, Nabas police chief.
Magcuha managed to escape through a small hole on the wall unnoticed, said Villanoche. “Iniwan pa ang posas sa lockup cell niya. Binigyan kami ng 48 hours upang mahuli ang suspek.”
As of press time on Saturday the suspect has not yet been arrested.
The Nabas police station was undergoing renovation. Nine officers were on duty at the time of the escape.
Villanoche asked the public to call the police station at (036) 2891016 or 09498870715 for any information on Magcuha’s whereabouts.
Senior Superintendent John Mitchell Jamili, provincial police director, said they will look into the lapses of the Nabas police.
A fact-finding team led by Superintendent Ariel Galeno will investigate the circumstances that led to Magcuha’s escape.
Magcuha, who already surrendered as a result of Oplan Double Barrel, was facing charges for violation of sections 6 and 11 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
