ILOILO – A Commission on Audit (COA) official hopes new government buildings will be built to withstand calamities, especially typhoons and floods.
The agency is currently “redoing and improving” its facilities, especially those damaged by typhoons, like its building in Tacloban, the city hardest-hit by super typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013, Commissioner Jose Fabia said.
They hope all government agencies would do the same, said Fabia, who was in Pavia town recently to grace the groundbreaking of the COA Region 6’s multipurpose building/covered court project.
According to Fabia, the COA building in Tacloban has been completely rebuilt into a better structure.
Another COA building in Region 2 was also destroyed, and the agency is rebuilding it into a typhoon-resilient edifice.
“Let’s make sure all government buildings are typhoon-, flood- and calamity-proof as much as possible,” said Fabia.
Aside from Fabia, also present at the groundbreaking were Commissioner Isabel Agito, assistant commissioners Elizabeth Zosa and Sabiniano Cabatuan, COA central office directors, Regional Director Evelyn Reyes, Pavia mayor Michael Gorriceta, former COA regional director Dominador Tersol, and guests.
