BACOLOD City – A Bacolodnon was the Philippines’ lone representative in a youth entrepreneurship competition of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Alan Francis Ang was one of 30 finalists among 51 countries worldwide chosen to compete in the Youth Entrepreneurial Meeting: Passion-Preneurs’ Challenge, according to city hall’s Public Information Office.
Several activities were lined up for the five-day competition, including intensive pitch workshops, mentoring and group discussion sessions, and management forums given by top business gurus.
Ang’s business plan is “Pasalubox,” a start-up online gift-box subscription service (or sub-box service) that has food, collectibles and souvenirs from a select city in the country changing every month.
The box promotes the local and organic micro, small and medium enterprises of a chosen city or province through brochures. Moreover, the box features the locality and its products.
ASEM is a biannual forum among members of the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The competition was aimed at raising public awareness on ASEM while encouraging interest in entrepreneurship and social impact.
The top three proposals from across Europe and Asia will be chosen to mobilize the potential of youth in economic and socio-cultural dialogue between partner countries. (PIA/PN)
