BACOLOD City – A 73-year-old woman died after a compactor truck of the city government’s garbage collector hit her on Saturday, police said.
Acting Mayor El Cid Familiaran wants the IPM Construction and Development Corp. to explain.
A blotter report at Police Station 7 stated the truck was moving backwards in Block 27 of Paglaum Village in Barangay Mansilingan when it hit Teresita Esporas, a resident.
The 24-year-old Sherwin Don Cadiente of Barangay Poblacion, Mabinay, Negros Oriental was driving the truck, police said.
Cadiente refused to comment and referred Panay News to the IPM management.
The IPM was aware of the incident and “constantly in contact” with the victim’s family, according to Jan Vincent Mercado, senior vice president.
“We have expressed our sincere condolences. We never wanted that to happen,” Mercado said in a text message. “It was an accident caused by one of our units.”
Everything is “still under investigation,” Mercado said.
“Our people are still talking to them about the contribution and help that our company can extend,” he said.
Familiaran said the IPM has not yet reported the incident to the city government.
“We will wait for the report they will submit,” he said.
The city government contracted the IPM for P59.4 million to provide “environmental sanitary services” on a “total cleanup” basis from Sept. 2 to Dec. 31./PN
