BACOLOD City — A 26-year-old housewife was struck by lightning in Sitio Dahlia, Barangay Puey, Sagay City. She died.

Michelle Padillo was hit in the head. She was rushed to Sagay District Hospital in the nearby Barangay Bato but was declared dead on arrival, police said.

At about 4 p.m. on Thursday, Padillo was washing clothes by the river about 50 meters away from their house when rain fell.

Padillo asked her 3-year-old daughter to call her husband to help her bring the clothes home, but she tried to take the clothes by herself. Then lightning struck her.

Barangay Puey is a hinterland village about 50 kilometers from Sagay City proper.

Supt. Edcel Manzano, Sagay police chief, said this was the second time this year that lightning killed a Puey villager./PN
