ILOILO City — A midwife escaped a man who allegedly tried to rape and kill her yesterday in her house in Barangay Buhang, Jaro district.

Charmeine Abdon, 27, sustained stab wounds in her left arm and body. She was confined in St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo, where she also works.

Abdon was surprised when, upon arriving home from work at about 1 a.m., Rey Mac Rapordo, 18, a poultry farm caretaker in the same village, tackled her, said Senior Insp. Herbert Ballego, Jaro police chief.

Abdon fought back, Ballego said.

However, he said they could not yet determine Rapordo’s real motive. “It could be rape or robbery. We are still investigating,” he said.

Police are now hunting the suspect./PN
