Might is right!
THERE are so many concepts about human beings. Thomas Hobbes believes that human beings are by nature bad. If you leave them in the state of nature, there will be war against each other. So, whoever is the strongest is right.
Contrarily, Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas believe in the inherent goodness of man, but because of opposing factors – the good and the evil confronting them all the time – they can be corrupted.
Similarly, Jean Jacques Rousseau sees human beings as good, but they are likewise prone to becoming morally debased because of the false values of society. These include the quest for wealth, fame, and happiness. In a word, POWER.
Power is the capability of letting one do what he does not want doing or not to do things he wants to do when left on his own.
Power comes also from the barrel of a gun. One can generate power from being an expert on something, for power legitimately vested in him or power wrested from another, for being famous, for being venerable, for being very rich.
Money is a source of power. The quickest ways could be by means of robbery, engagement on shadowy deals, the use of raw force or deceitful ways, use of influence, like the Marcosian way of accumulating tremendous wealth in a crafty manner.
Will there be an end to the Marcoses’ quest for power? No. Look at his heirs. They take off from where the father ended. Evil reigns in the Marcos family. They whisked away Ferdinand Marcos on the eve of the People Power surreptitiously.
Even in his death and even in the disposition of his remains, the Marcoses employed devious ways of defrauding the Filipinos. The daring but shameful maneuvering of Imelda Marcos and children Bongbong and Imee to bury the remains of the dictator in a place which the father does not deserve only proves that might is right flowing from their tremendous power generated by billions or trillions of dollars which the Filipinos have to pay as Philippine debts.
I admire the youth who held a rally alone before the Libingan ng mga Bayani. I admire the young woman who spoke against twisted history of our country.
The Philippines once again awaits for the legitimate people power to shake off indifference and to forge once again MIGHT to rectify what is wrong. (delsocorrodaquila@gmail.com/PN)
