MANILA – Favored teams F2 Logistics Cargo Movers and RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers will be gunning for semifinals seats in separate knockout matches tonight in the 2016 Philippine Superliga Granrd Prix at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The No. 3 seed Cargo Movers will take on sixth placer Cignal HD Spikers at 7 p.m. while fourth seed Lady Troopers will tackle No. 5 ranked Generika Life Savers at 5 p.m.
After finishing the double-round eliminations with a 7-3 win-loss slate, the Cargo Movers are heavily favored against the undermanned HD Spikers, which struggled with the injury of Puerto Rican import Lynda Morales to end up with a 1-9 slate.
Lady Troopers head coach Ramil de Jesus said he told his wards not to take HD Spikers lightly as he wants to see his team go full blast in preparation for their semis match against the Tri-Activ Spikers, a squad which they have yet to defeat this conference.
“Although our focus is now in the semifinals, we still have to be careful against Cignal,” said de Jesus, “I told the team to give their best in the playoffs so they will have high morale when we face Petron in the semis.”
Cargo Movers imports Hayley Spelman and Sydney Kemper, as well as Ara Galang and Cha Cruz, are expected to helm the offensive, while Mika Reyes, Aby Maraño and Dawn Macandili are taking charge defensively.
A victory by the Cargo Movers would pit the team against the Petron Tri-Activ Spikers while a win by the Lady Troopers will stack it against topseed Foton Tornadoes in the semifinals set on Dec. 3 at the Ibalong Centrum for Sports and Recreation in Legazpi City./PN
