BACOLOD City – Four sugar cane laborers (sakada) of Hacienda Esparanza in Barangay Nangka, EB Magalona town are currently missing. They allegedly stole their contractor’s P200,000 cash amount.
Juanito Samillano, 22; his brother, Jemwel, 20; Kim Eliserio, 23; and Jason Pagsuguinon, 21, who are all natives of Tibiao, Antique, failed to report to work on Thursday.
According to their contractor Eleno Claro, he left his bag containing the money in his room before he went to work. A sakada told him that Jason entered the room and stole his bag.
Claro tried to look for the suspects but failed.
Police Chief Inspector Ramsey Barro said he has already coordinated with the Tibiao police.
Last week, Antique governor Rhodora Cadiao was in Negros Occidental to personally visit sakadas who were reportedly maltreated and underpaid.
There are about 10,000 sakadas from Antique province working in Negros Occidental, data showed./PN
