MANILA – The University of the Philippines Pep Squad captured a total of six medals in the 2nd Asian Cheerleading and Dancesport Championship on Sunday at Jakarta, Indonesia.
The UP Pep Squad and the UP Filipiniana Dance Group, which represented the country in the said cheerleading tournament, captured one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
The UP group’s gold medal came from the mixed group stunts category, while the silver medals were from the all-female team cheer, cheerdance duo, and cheerdance group categories.
The UP team also won bronze in the all-female group stunts and mixed team cheer category. The six medals of the UP Pep Squad surpassed its three medal feat last year in Berlin, Germany.
The Asian Cheerleading and Dancesport Championship serves as the qualifiers to the Cheerleading World Championships (CWC), which will be held in Takisaki, Japan next year.
The UP Pep Squad had earlier backed out from the 2016 UAAP Cheerdance Competition, which was topped by the National University Pep Squad, to focus on the international event./PN
