ILOILO CITY – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) together with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) inspected establishments of firecracker manufacturers and sellers in the city on Monday.
The inspection came after the instruction of work shutdown for all establishments in the manufacture and sale of pyrotechnics and firecrackers by DOLE secretary Silvestre H. Bello III on Nov. 24.
City Fire Marshal Superintendent Jerry Candido said there is only one licensed firecracker manufacturer and five dealers while there are more than 100 retailers with permits that sell firecrackers for a week in designated firecracker zones in the city.
Candido also clarified that the work shutdown order of DOLE is not a band and firecracker manufacturers or sellers with business permits from Iloilo City will be re-assessed to ensure they comply with the safety requirements of the BFP and PNP, and health standards for workers set by DOLE.
If all requirements are complied with, Candido said the DOLE regional director, with recommendations from the BFP and the Philippine National Police, will issue recommendation lifting the stoppage order for the compliant establishment.
“The compliant establishment will be issued an order allowing them to manufacture or sell firecrackers,” he said.
Meanwhile, City Administrator Hernando Galvez said the local government unit already coordinated with the BFP for the enforcement of the order.
“The BFP was given instructions to monitor and stop all manufacturers and sellers of firecrackers in Iloilo City.” Galvez said. (PNA/PN)
