ILOILO City – Marking the 153rd birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio yesterday, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 urged the youth to persevere, be industrious and courageous.

Bonifacio was not able to finish his studies yet he enriched his knowledge through self-education.

“His life is a good example to all, most especially to our youth. He was the eldest of six siblings. Sang napatay ang ila ginikanan, nag self-study siya,” said Division of Iloilo City Schools acting superintendent Clarissa Zamora.

Zamora spoke during the commemorative program at the Bonifacio Shrine in Barangay Tanza-Bonifacio, City Proper.

Bonifacio was born on Nov. 30, 1863. He was considered the Father of the Philippine Revolution.

When his parents died one year apart due to illness, he needed to work and provide for his siblings.

In1892, Bonifacio organized the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary society that initiated military revolts against the Spaniards.

“Ang aton mga baganihan nagatulok nga ang kabataan hope sang aton country. Ang kabuhi ni Andres Bonifacio kag sang iban pa nga baganihan dapat naton sundon,” said Zamora./PN
