BACOLOD City – In four weeks’ time, 28 police officers in Negros Island Region were relieved over their alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Fourteen were sacked just this Monday, according to Chief Inspector Dianne Grace Catedral, regional police spokesperson.
Seven were relieved effective Oct. 26 and another seven on Nov. 16, as the Philippine National Police (PNP) cleanses its ranks in keeping with the intensified crackdown on drugs — the thrust of the Duterte administration.
Catedral said the 14 recently sacked officers were among the 40 from the regional headquarters under validation.
The names of all officers recommended to the national headquarters for relief have consistently appeared during validation, said Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, Negros Island police director.
“Kami nga officials, come and go lang sa (PNP) organization. The organization will remain. Po-protektahan namin ang organization by cleansing the ranks,” Gumban said — a subtle warning to low-ranking officers.
Director General Ronald dela Rosa, PNP chief, ordered the relief of the following officers effective Nov. 28:
* Senior Police Officer 4 Randy Rentillo, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office
* Senior Police Officer 2 Jo Raymund Eraula, San Carlos City police station
* Senior Police Officer 1 Fidel Alcoma, Hinoba-an police station
* Senior Police Officer 1 Joebert Benjamin, Hinigaran police station
* Senior Police Officer 1 Joey Genterola, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 3 Lyle Cañazares, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 2 Conrado Juguan III, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 2 Venjo Tortosa, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 2 Armar Mariano, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 1 Ivan Torch Irog, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 1 Jezreel Dalisay, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 1 Harvey Mash Tison, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 1 Raymar Geocadin, Hinigaran police station
* Police Officer 1 Job Santander, Hinigaran police station
They will be transferred to the Police Regional Office (PRO) Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The seven officers sacked on Nov. 16 were reassigned to the PRO-Cordillera, while the other seven relieved on Oct. 26 were transferred to regional police offices in Mindanao and Northern Luzon.
Earlier Catedral said the PRO-18 may request for more officers from Camp Crame in light of the “internal cleansing” relative to the antidrug campaign.
It is a new office and lacks sufficient personnel, with many officers occupying two positions, the spokesperson had said./PN
