KALIBO, Aklan – Oplan Double Barrel helped reduce crimes in the province by 15.5 percent, according to the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO).

The APPO presented its January–October 2016 crime incidents assessment during the launch of a community-based initiative against anomalies and drugs of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Average monthly crime rate in Aklan decreased to 158.4 during the period from 182.5 in the same period in 2015.

Meanwhile 1,863 suspected drug pushers and/or users have surrendered to municipal police stations from July 1 — the start of the more aggressive antidrug operations — to Nov. 22, the APPO said.

Towns with the most number of yielders were Kalibo, 424; Malay, 234; Ibajay, 194; Numancia, 149; New Washington, 140; Altavas, 127; and Nabas, 123. Other towns had less than 100, including Libacao with just nine.

But barangay drug clearing operations resulted in 57 cleared villages as of Nov. 3, while 113 barangays were non-affected, the APPO said. (PIA/PN)
