MANILA – The San Sebastian College Lady Stags banked on its experience to trample the streaking San Beda Red Lionesses, 25-16, 25-13, 25-16, in the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball on Thursday night at the San Juan Arena.
Reigning MVP Gretchel Soltones led the way with 21 points for the Lady Stags, which tied defending champion College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers on top of the standings with a 4-0 win-loss slate.
However, the win proved to be costly for the back-to-back NCAA women’s volleyball runner-ups as veteran outside hitter Dangie Encarnacion sustained a sprained ankle in the second set.
The Lady Stags was so dominant that it converted a total of 46 attacks in the match, with 20 solely coming from Soltones, as compared to the Red Lionesses’ 19 from 76 tries.
“Yun yung advantage naming (attacks). We might as well use it,” said Lady Stags head coach Roger Gorayeb “Gusto namin mag-champion. Ang goal namin mag-Finals ulit. Isa’t isa ganun ang objective. Dapat pagsikapan namin.”
Franchesca Racraquin was the lone bright spot with 11 markers for the Red Lionesses, which suffered its first defeat after handily winning its first three assignments in the season.
Meanwhile, the Arellano University Lady Chiefs captured its third consecutive win after scoring a 25-18, 25-14, 29-31, 25-17 domination over the still win-less Colegio de San Juan De Letran Lady Knights.
Jovelyn Prado top-scored with 17 markers, on 12 attacks and five service aces, for the one-time NCAA titlist Lady Chiefs, which moved up to a 3-1 win-loss slate./PN
