Gifts
GIFTS come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Wrappers and ribbons are nothing according to one personnel of a mall because we simply tear them. But you can’t explain the thrill and the joy once you are presented a gift.
We feel special and grateful that we are thought of. The thrill is in the opening of gifts. Santa Claus failed to give our family gifts then and so I promised that the next batch of my generation will receive gifts on special occasions, especially on Christmas.
As early as October, each member of the family planned out for gifts they will give, and as early as November, Christmas tree stands already in our living room, and gifts gradually find their way under the tree.
Dec. 25 is a special day for our family. It is the day grownups and kids excitedly look forward to. It is so tiring but gratifying to cook bulalo, valenciana and kare-kare but they always ask for these dishes.
When we are gathered together, laughter fill the house, recalling happy memories, forgiving and setting aside differences. With grateful hearts, we recognize the good things we received through the year. It is also an anticipation of the incoming year’s new challenges, new opportunities and abundant blessings.
Every year, I remember so many friends and loved ones that I have to prepare gifts for, aside from being tasked as a cook and a wrapper of gifts at home. I wonder why I got very few packages. Dec. 16 ushers in the Simbang Gabi that I wish it is always Christmas season.
Miracles do happen on Christmas. I just realized that it has been 11 years now since I tearfully asked the Lord to extend my life after having been diagnosed with cancer. This year, along with the precious life He has lent, it’s a joy and my pride to join the pillar of my home, Daddy, who leads the family in praying the Holy Rosary, waking all of us to attend the Simbang Gabi.
This year, we got bonuses from Him. We just welcomed Phantom Brown, a new car for the family, a 533-page new book done, and a stable job Dad and I contracted until 2020 despite our being retirees.
I realized how abundant have been the blessings He poured to me, the true gifts of peace, joy and contentment. (delsocorrodaquila@mail.com/PN)
