ILOILO City – Police made rounds in Arevalo district to reprimand unlicensed firecracker manufacturers.
Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, city police director, called their operation “Tokhang” but said they were not after illegal drugs.
Iloilo City Police Office personnel and Arevalo police station officers visited the houses and manufacturing sites of firecracker makers in Barangay San Jose and told them to stop for lack of permit.
Arevalo is considered the firecracker center in the city, but Bureau of Fire Protection records showed there is only one license manufacturer there.
“We conducted Operation Tokhang [but] not for illegal drugs,” Canieso said.
Police sternly warned the illegal manufacturers. “Hindi sila pwede mag-manufacture ngayon kasi wala silang permit,” he stressed.
Canieso reminded licensed firecracker retailers to sell and the customers to buy only in designated areas.
Firecracker zones in each district were identified in Executive Order No. 87 series of 2006 issued by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog./PN
