ILOILO City – A 31-year-old rape suspect was arrested in his house in Barangay Baybay, Roxas City.

Ronald Daradar was charged with five counts of rape. He had been wanted for six years now.

He was detained in the Roxas City police station lockup cell on Tuesday.

Regional Trial Court Branch 14 Judge Jeffrey Almalbis issued the warrant of arrest against Daradar. He did not set a bail bond.

Rape is classified as a crime against persons.

It means it is no longer a private crime, so anyone who has knowledge of the crime may file a case on the victim’s behalf, according to the Philippine Commission on Women.

Prosecution continues even if the victim drops the case or pardons the offender, said the commission.

Under the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, rape is committed:

“(1) By a man who shall have carnal knowledge of a woman under any of the following circumstances: through force, threat, or intimidation; when the offended party is deprived of reason or otherwise unconscious; by means of fraudulent machination or grave abuse of authority; and when the offended party is under 12 years of age or is demented, even though none of the circumstances mentioned above be present,” or

“(2) By any person who, under any of the circumstances mentioned in [the previous] paragraph … shall commit an act of sexual assault by inserting his penis into another person’s mouth or anal orifice, or any instrument or object, into the genital or anal orifice of another person.”/PN
