ILOILO – Preparations are on high gear for the Binanog Festival in Lambunao town this coming Jan. 5 to 8, 2017.
Now in its 14th edition, the annual event features the culture and tradition of the Sulod Bukidnon, an indigenous peoples (IP) group in the town.
Binanog particularly showcases the IPs’ traditional dances, including the following:
* Binanugan, which depicts the movements of birds locally known as “dapay,” or hawk, that used to be abundant in the hinterlands;
* Inagong sayaw-sayaw, a celebration dance; and
* Dinagmay, a courtship dance.
Acting Mayor Cesar Gonzales said they have set Jan. 6 as “IP Day” to give tribute to the Sulod Bukidnon.
Spectators can witness IP dances at the town plaza, food festival and merrymaking.
On Jan. 7, Vice President Leni Robredo will grace a feeding program by the Negrense Volunteers for Change.
Other activities include painting exhibit by local artists, torch parade, para-liturgy and praise and worship night in honor of Señor Santo Niño, motor show, stylized folk dance, Farmer’s Day, search for festival queen, and tribes competition. (PNA)
