ILOILO City – Evaluation is ongoing for the 260 drug dependents undergoing rehabilitation at the Community Change Center.

Those ready to leave treatment will “graduate” on Jan. 12, 2017, according to the City Health Office (CHO).

Their number will be known by first week of January, said Dr. Bernard Caspe, CHO head.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he learned that the patients made great progress.

“They were visited by the DOH (Department of Health),” said Mabilog. “In summary, I was told we have met the parameters established by the DOH.”

“Graduation” rites will be held at the Diamond Jubillee Hall on Mabini Street.

The patients’ families and representatives from the DOH, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Police Regional Office 6 will be invited.

After their rehabilitation, some of them will undergo a two-month skills training at the Technical Institute of Iloilo City.

Eighty-seven have so far showed intent to develop skills they can use to start their chosen livelihood, Mabilog said.

City hall will also allot funding for a livelihood program for the graduates, he said.

Meanwhile the city government is preparing for the second batch of drug dependents to undergo rehabilitation.

Caspe is getting the names of the next patients from the Association of Barangay Councils, said Mabilog./PN
