MANILA – What are Cong. Jerry Treñas’ (Iloilo City) New Year resolutions for 2017?
“Daw tigulang na ako para sa New Year’s resolutions. Senior citizen na ako,” Treñas, 60, told Panay News.
But the congressman, who announced last month he would be quitting politics in 2019, said he had high hopes for Iloilo City.
“It is my hope that Iloilo will continue to attract investments so that additional employment will be made available to all our constituents,” said Treñas.
He prayed for the city’s continued progress. Specifically, he wanted more infrastructure projects and an end to the pestering problem on floods.
Treñas also urged Ilonggo leaders to “united for the continued development and progress of Iloilo.”
But for him, “There is always time to let go,” he told family members, supporters and local officials during his advance 60th birthday celebration in his office last Dec. 2, 2016. His birthday was Dec. 4.
In January 2016, Treñas told Panay News he was planning to run for city mayor once again in 2019. But he changed his mind, he said.
“Nakalab-ot kita subong sa crossroads, [kag] amo na ang akon desisyon,” he said. “Mamag-an sa akon buot ang ini nga desisyon.”
One of the reasons, the congressman said, was that he wanted the city’s progress to continue under Jed Patrick Mabilog and Jose Espinosa III, the incumbent mayor and vice mayor, respectively.
Meanwhile, Rep. Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo’s 3rd district promised to value time and get things done this 2017.
“(My New Year’s Resolution is) not to wait for tomorrow for the things I can do today,” said Defensor, son of Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor Sr./PN
