ILOILO – A passenger jeepney from Barotac Nuevo town fell into a ditch in Barangay Cagamutan Norte, Leganes yesterday. Sixteen passengers were injured.
Around 8:50 a.m. the driver, Arnel Binas of Barangay Cabilauan, Barotac Nuevo, lost control of the jeepney when two of its tires burst.
“The jeepney was headed to the transport terminal in Barangay Tagbak, Jaro, Iloilo City and was running fast,” according to Leganes police station’s Police Officer 2 Leo Barnuevo.
The following passengers were taken to the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Iloilo City:
* Rey Espiñosa, 49
* Irene Rhio Maliay, 21,
* Rasel Bitiwan, 25
* Dianne Diadhempearl Doctora, 19
* Rosa Nessa Belandres, 70
* Angelie Querubin, 21
* Genelyn Palermo, 26
* Morita Quimba, 49, and
*Genalyn Espiñosa, 45.
Five were brought to QualiMed hospital in Mandurriao, Iloilo City – Andrea Arorong, 30; Maria Cristina Villanueva, 26; Risa Castor, 25; Neria Barniso, 46, and son Moises, 8.
Two were rushed to the Iloilo Mission Hospital in La Paz, Iloilo City – Marvie Sumagaysay, 25; and Dave Bedia, 26.
Barnuevo said the passengers sustained minor injuries.
Driver Binas was unhurt. He was detained at the Leganes police station./PN
