BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia urged 110 new traffic enforcers to love their work.

“We need dedication here,” Leonardia told them on Day 1 of their five-day (not six-day, as earlier reported) training at the Bacolod City Police Office. “We need commitment.”

The Basic Enforcement Training started on Tuesday and will end on Saturday. Their graduation will be on Sunday.

Leonardia told Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, to immediately deploy the new enforcers after the training.

Managing vehicular traffic here is “very challenging,” especially that about 500 new cars are added to the city every month — or about 6,000 new cars every year — according to the mayor.

“You know what your job is, you know the situation and you know how important your job is,” he said. “Please work together. We are one team. We should work for the welfare of our riding public.”

Due to budgetary constraints, the city government could hire only 170 traffic enforcers last year, said Leonardia.

The mayor plans to hire at least 400 traffic enforcers this year.

Leonardia also stressed the importance of the training.

“You may have the desire to work, you may be ready to serve, but if you don’t know how to, it is still useless,” he said.

Including the newly hired ones, the city now has around 400 traffic enforcers, Acebuche said.

Earlier Acebuche said the city government believes deploying more traffic enforcers will solve traffic problems. (With Bacolod City PIO/PN)
